STV Productions wins re-commission for four new series of Antiques Road Trip

Tagged in: Press Releases
STV Productions today (Thursday) confirms that it has been commissioned by BBC Daytime to produce a further four series of the popular programme, Antiques Road Trip.

This two year contract will see STV Productions deliver 120 x 45” episodes for BBC2 – a deal which places it in a strong position at the beginning of 2012 and promises viewers many more hours of barter, banter and antiques know-how as the experts battle it out.

The programme pairs Britain’s best loved antiques experts and sends them on a bargain hunting road trip across the UK, competing with each other to make the most money buying and selling antiques.  The battle of wits, expert knowledge and egos has proven to be a compelling combination, with the series attracting audiences of up to 2.7 million.

Across its first three series, and including the peak time celebrity edition of the programme, Antiques Road Trip has been watched by over 27 million individuals. The show attracts an average audience of 2.1m viewers and a 13% share, which is 24% higher than the average slot performance.

Antiques Road Trip has also seen a significant increase in audience share: the audience increased by over 40% over the course of series one, by 30% across series two and by 34% in series three. The fourth series of the programme is currently showing on BBC2, and is proving to be as popular as ever in its 5.15pm slot.

Liam Keelan, Controller, BBC Daytime, made the commission for 120 new episodes for BBC Two Daytime, following the same format as is currently on air. Jo Street, Daytime’s Commissioning Executive, Scotland & Northern Ireland, will executive produce the series for the BBC. Paul Tucker will executive produce for STV.

Alan Clements, Director of Content for STV, said: “This fantastic two-year commission is a massive vote of confidence in STV Productions and the talented team that produce this ratings-busting show.  One hundred and twenty episodes really under-pins our business going forward and is testimony to the company's decision to focus on content creation.”

Wendy Rattray, Creative Director for STV Productions, said: “Antiques Road Trip has grown in strength and popularity in the three years that it has been on air. A two-year deal is an incredible achievement for the team and the experts who have worked unbelievably hard to produce an informative, clever and funny show that is clearly a hit with the viewers.”
