STV’s unique and dedicated online research panel, ScotPulse, captures mood of the nation

Tagged in: Press Releases
ScotPulse, Scotland’s only dedicated online research panel, launched by broadcaster STV, is now over a year old and is firmly established as a unique, robust and valuable research tool delivering fast results from a vast panel, effectively tracking the pulse of Scotland.
ScotPulse allows deeper engagement with consumers and successfully captures the mood of the nation across a wide range of issues on a regular basis, and often with a very quick turnaround.
With a robust pan-Scottish panel of over 10,000, the ScotPulse panel has already this year proved to be a barometer of public opinion for Scottish elections; measured the Scottish public’s feeling on the EUROs; revealed that 76% of Scots were planning nothing for the Queen’s jubilee; and provided useful consumer feedback for numerous companies.
ScotPulse has proven to be valuable both for the broadcaster and a wide range of companies, gaining insights into consumer views and opinions across Scotland.
ScotPulse in action
Earlier this year, the country saw a legal first when STV was allowed to film a sentencing in court.  ScotPulse swiftly issued a poll to benchmark public opinion.  7 hours later, STV’s current affairs programme Scotland Tonight was able to use the results from a sample of 1500 for their live show.  The full results (sample 2500) were published at 9am the next morning on, The survey highlighted findings such as ‘two out of three people agree cameras should be allowed in court’.
Using market-leading feedback platform, Confirmit Horizons, the team has worked with a range of Scottish businesses on their research requirements, including Lidl, ScottishPower, Weatherseal, CR Smith, Bank of Scotland and Strathclyde Fire and Rescue.
The results of the bespoke research surveys help Scottish companies gain a better understanding of the likes and dislikes of their consumers, enabling them to make improvements to brands and products to ensure they provide the best possible service.  ScotPulse delivers brand insights, pre and post advertising awareness, web and newsletter evaluation and so much more – tracking the pulse of Scotland.
Kathleen Wiseman, STV Research Manager, said: “ScotPulse has its finger firmly on the pulse of the Scottish nation.  Our panel is robust and engaged, and we have the ability to turn around surveys on topical issues within 24 hours and guarantee a healthy response.  It’s a truly unique offering and one that allows us a deeper relationship with our audiences and consumers across the country, which is not only useful for STV but is proving invaluable to the businesses we work with.”
“It’s proving to be a hugely valuable tool for the companies we’re working with, providing insight into their brands, the industry they work in and the mood of the public and their customers.  We’ve worked with a range of clients over the past year and have received nothing but positive feedback, and we’re delighted that our panel is already well over 10,000 with a quick and high response rate.”
Tim Hannington, EVP, Confirmit adds: “STV is clearly delivering a huge amount of value to Scottish companies through its Scotpulse panel. I’m delighted that the Confirmit Horizons platform is underpinning the programme through its advanced and scalable panel capabilities. We’re looking forward to supporting STV as the panel continues to grow and evolve”.
