Tagged in: Press Releases
STV’s popular current affairs programme, Scotland Tonight, is celebrating its one year anniversary. Scotland Tonight is firmly established as Scotland’s must watch provider of engaging current affairs, reaching three million viewers over the year.

Scotland Tonight launched with Donald Trump and First Minister Alex Salmond in the studio and has continued to attract high profile guests from the world of politics, including Alistair Darling and Michael Moore, from the world of entertainment, Annie Lennox and Nicola Benedetti, as well as sports personalities such as Graeme Obree.

In the past 12 months, the programme has covered all the major issues in Scotland, including special editions on the crisis at Rangers Football Club and the independence referendum, with the audience growing by 18% over the period. Scotland Tonight now attracts an average audience of over 100,000 each night, regularly reaching 500,000 viewers across Scotland each week.

Gordon Macmillan, Head of News at STV, said: “Scotland Tonight is an interactive programme that tackles the big issues. The viewing figures regularly outperform our long-established competitors and are testament to the quality of the programme as we connect with people across Scotland on the issues that matter to them.

“When we launched Scotland Tonight we set out to report on the big issues but we also wanted viewers to interact with the programme and tell us what they think. This has proved extremely successful and Scotland Tonight will undoubtedly continue to help inform many Scots’ news and current affairs in the years ahead.”

Scotland Tonight represents a key part of STV’s commitment to delivering high quality PSB content across all platforms, with national and local news on STV News, online at stv.tv and STV Local’s hyper-local sites, plus mobile web and dedicated apps for iPhone and Android devices.

Scotland Tonight is live on STV Monday to Thursday at 10.30pm and is presented by Rona Dougall and John MacKay. The 30 minute show is produced and presented from STV’s news centres in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen with a dedicated team of journalists delivering engaging reports and features from all corners of the country.
