Couples take to the floor for first dance on STV

Tagged in: Press Releases
A brand new wedding dance programme, First Dance, will be screened on STV on Wednesday 14th November.

The one hour programme follows two couples as they learn a show stopping dance routine to perform on their big day in front of stunned family and friends.

Both couples have received expert tuition from world class choreographers during 10 days of intensive dance lessons in secret to prepare for their first dance on their special day. The winning couple will walk away with a fantastic £10,000 prize.

First Dance follows the trials and tribulations of both couples dealing with the stressful build up to their wedding, keeping their dance a secret, and ensuring their dance is the best it can be.  A panel of judges, consisting of ballet maestro Wayne Sleep, Strictly Come Dancing’s triple champion Lilia Kopylova and top movie choreographer Paul Harris, the man who taught Harry Potter how to use his wand, then watch their performance back to decide which couple will start their married life with the prize money.

Elizabeth Partyka, deputy director of channels
, said: “First Dance is great fun, highly entertaining, and provides an exciting behind the scenes look into the stresses and strains of preparing for a memorable wedding. The viewers will be taken on a real journey, and will learn all about the couples, their ups and downs, their lifts and spins, as we see the moment their secret training pays off on their wedding day.”

Wendy Rattray, creative director for STV Productions, said: “Weddings are bigger and better than ever, and First Dance gives the viewers a great insight into how two couples put all their blood, sweat and tears into making their special day a real show stopper.”

Edinburgh based couple Darren and Gemma Tunesi received secret dance training from choreographer Natricia Bernard, who has worked with Kanye West, Katy Perry and Florence and the Machine. Natricia put them through their paces, with Darren, a recruitment consultant learning lifts and Gemma, a primary teacher, bearing the bruises from the complex routine.

Aberdeen couple Matt, a fisherman, and Ellie Kinghorn, a retail manager, met with New York choreographer John Byrne who has worked with top stars such as Lady Gaga, Elton John, and Gwen Stefani.  John trained them for ten, punishing days to create an amazing first dance for their guests and loved ones.
