STV has confirmed its new, city TV channel for Glasgow will launch on 2nd June 2014.

STV Glasgow will begin broadcasting at 1830 on Monday 2nd June to 2 million viewers in the west of Scotland on Freeview channel 26.

The channel will broadcast a magazine show each week day evening from 1830 - 2030 live from Pacific Quay. The Riverside Show will be presented by Jennifer Reoch and David Farrell.

The new channel will be on air from 1200 to 2400 every day with an entertaining mix of news and features, live and interactive formats, and quality acquired and archive programming.

A total of 26 new roles have been created to deliver the channel. Former ITV Daybreak’s Gerry Cassidy has been appointed as senior producer of The Riverside Show and will work with Paul Hughes, channel editor for STV Glasgow, to deliver the service.

Paul Hughes, channel editor for STV Glasgow, said: “This is a hugely exciting opportunity to launch a brand new channel for Scotland’s largest city. We want to celebrate everything that’s great about Glasgow and reflect what is happening in this truly unique city each day.

“There is plenty to do before we get the channel on air but there is an overwhelming sense of enthusiasm about the launch of a brand new TV channel in Glasgow, about Glasgow for the people of Glasgow. We look forward to bringing viewers all the latest news, entertainment and features from the city every day from 2nd June.”

Ahead of the first broadcast on 2nd June, viewers will be asked to retune their televisions to pick up the Freeview signal for channel 23.

Ofcom announced the award of licences to STV for Glasgow and Edinburgh in January 2013. STV Glasgow will be delivered in partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University, offering students the opportunity to work in a live television environment.

The new channel will complement STV’s current portfolio of locally focused services on air, online and on mobile.
