STV Glasgow celebrates first anniversary

Tagged in: Press Releases
City TV channel, STV Glasgow celebrates its first year of broadcasting today (Tuesday 2nd June) across the city and the surrounding area, reaching 1.6 million viewers since launch (78% of transmission area).*

As well as this impressive figure the channel has much to celebrate having firmly established itself with viewers and on the Scottish media scene. Throughout the year it has given a platform to the goings-on of Glasgow and featured many people from across the city’s communities, including budding musicians, fledgling restaurateurs, businesses and local organisations.

The channel’s flagship programme, The Riverside Show, which airs at 7pm each weeknight, is presented by David Farrell and Jennifer Reoch. Together they have welcomed a host of famous faces onto the sofa including Lorraine Kelly, Rory Bremner, Calvin Harris, Carol Smillie, Mark Millar, Justin Currie, Judy Murray, John Hartson, Charlie Flynn, Gary Lewis, Jackie Brambles and Ross King.

Programmes like The Riverside Show and Grass Roots Music have given a great deal of exposure to local music acts and helped create success stories like Glasgow based band, Scarlets.

Lead singer Dougie MacSween said: “We formed just over eight months and were made-up when we were given the opportunity to go on The Riverside Show. It is fantastic that STV Glasgow promotes grass roots music - if we hadn’t been given this break it would have taken us much longer to get to where we are now; heading to the studio to record new material having just signed a record deal.”

Channel editor for STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh, Paul Hughes said: “We’re delighted that the city has taken STV Glasgow to its heart. To reach 1.6 million viewers since launch is a tremendous achievement for a local television station and an indication that viewers like the range of programmes from new and classic drama to our mix of local news, chat, sport, history, music, culture and events. It really is local TV, made for and by the people of Glasgow.”

“Our City TV channels have had a fantastic start. We’re very proud of the channels’ achievements so far and look forward to continuing their success in the future”.
