STV steps into the ring to bring live boxing to TV screens

Tagged in: Press Releases
STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh will step into the ring to bring live boxing to viewers as Commonwealth boxing gold medallist Charlie Flynn and hotly-tipped boxing talent Joe Ham take on their opponents in STV Fight Night on Friday 18 March.

The 90 minute programme will be presented by Peter Martin, joined by former Commonwealth super-featherweight champion Ian McLeod, and broadcast live from Glasgow City Hotel.

There will be two fights broadcast live; Joe Ham vs Dmitrijs Gutmans and Charlie Flynn vs Jordan Ellison.

Paul Hughes, channel editor for STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh, said: “In the words of Charlie Flynn himself, we are buzzing like a jar of wasps to be hosting the return of Scottish live boxing on television. Charlie and Joe are always popular when they appear on our channels so we’re delighted to be able to broadcast these fights to a far wider audience.

“It’s great that we are able to step into the ring to bring local sport to our audience and recognise the legacy of the Commonwealth Games in 2014.”

STV Fight Night will be broadcast on STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh at 10pm on Friday 18 March. Boxing fans across Scotland and the rest of the UK can watch the fight live on the STV Player.

STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh are available on Freeview channel 23, Sky channel 117 and Virgin channel 159 in their broadcast areas.
