STV switches off channels to encourage Scots to get active

Tagged in: Press Releases
STV will switch off its channels for an hour to encourage Scots to get up, be active and take part in the UK's biggest ever sports day in an ambitious joint partnership with ITV and the National Lottery.

All three of STV's channels - STV, STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh - will be switched off from 9.30am to 10.30am on Saturday 27 August to promote the 'I am Team GB' event, which is organised by the National Lottery and ITV in conjunction with the British Olympics Association and UK Sport.

The event will give people the opportunity to come together with Olympic heroes and famous STV faces to take part in the biggest ever UK wide sports day. Sports clubs across the country will open their doors to inspire people to get out and become involved in a wide range of sports, free of charge.

Elizabeth Partyka, STV's deputy director of channels, said: "Switching off our channels to encourage Scots to get active is an exciting initiative and we are delighted to be part of this unique partnership. We hope that this summer of sport will inspire Scots across the country to celebrate the performance of our Olympians and join in with the country's biggest ever sports day at their local clubs."

The ‘I Am Team GB’ campaign will celebrate the role the nation plays in Team GB’s success through the support they give elite athletes by playing The National Lottery. Over £80 million has been raised each year by National Lottery players to help fund elite athletes during the four-year build-up to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
