STV tempts viewers with all-American cuisine in new cooking show

Tagged in: Press Releases
Think American food is all fast food and junk? Think again. A new six part food show on STV’s City TV channels is taking American cooking back from the imitators and showing viewers how to rustle up their own authentic culinary treats at home.

Liberty's Great American Cookbook , which starts Monday 13 June at 8.30pm, follows cook and food blogger Liberty Vittert as she visits some of her favourite restaurants and cafes in Glasgow and Edinburgh to eat traditional American food and shows viewers how to make their own stateside classics at home.

Watch a promo for the show here.

Liberty, from St. Louis in the heart of the Midwest, is from a family of TV presenters – her brother is a news anchor and her father is a TV presenter in the US. She moved to Glasgow three years ago to study for a PhD and now works as a lecturer in mathematics at the University of Glasgow.

A regular on STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh's Live at Five, Liberty started cooking as a little girl with her mother and grandmother. She was formally trained at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and now puts her own delicious spin on classic all-American recipes passed down in her family for generations - from burgers and deliciously sticky ribs to Italian-American cuisine and Tex Mex.

Liberty said: "Outrageously easy, perfectly foolproof, simple to fancify, and shamefully delicious American food for you to make at home is this show's recipe for success. Not only will you learn how to make fabulous American food, but you will also get tips and pointers on how to make other food you make taste delicious.

"The best part about American food is that it is a melting pot of every other cuisine; so Indian, Mexican, Portuguese, Italian, French - there is always an American viewpoint on that so you are never limited to 'one type' of cuisine.

"I'm most excited about showing everyone how spectacular authentic American food is. It gets such a bad rap, but after my explorations into food, it really is the winner for me, particularly since you do every cuisine as a part of it. I want everyone to see how easy it can be to make absolutely, explosively spectacular American food!"

Paul Hughes, Channel Editor of STV’s City channels, said: "Every time Liberty appeared on STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh the teams were shocked at how different her American food tasted compared to the global fast foods we've become accustomed to. We're delighted that Liberty will now be able to re-introduce the Great American Cookbook to viewers with a fresh perspective. American food is like an old song you've become tired of - then when you hear it again with fresh ears you sometimes remember why it's so good and why you liked it in the first place. Especially when it's cooked properly.

“Liberty is as American as the statue she was named after and really lives up to the all-American dream. She came here to study for a PhD, she's a Cordon Bleu cook and somehow finds time to present TV shows. However, she's also down-to-earth, great fun and we think the viewers will really warm to her. "

Liberty's Great American Cookbook is available for catch-up on the STV Player. All recipes can be found at stv.tv/americancookbook.

STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh are available on Freeview channel 8, Sky channel 117 and Virgin channel 159 in their broadcast areas.
