STV supports SMEs with Growth Academy event in Dundee

Tagged in: Press Releases
Yesterday, Wednesday 8th May, STV hosted the third STV Growth Academy as part of a series of events designed to provide small and medium sized enterprises with resources and insight which will support them as they take the next step on their business journey.

As the country’s leading digital media company, STV is committed to driving and growing a strong and prosperous Scotland.  The STV Growth Academy event got underway at Dundee’s Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa featuring a programme themed around role of business culture in driving growth.

STV attracts mass audiences - reaching at least 86% of Scots on air, online and on demand.  Harnessing STV’s wealth of experience in media planning, creative brand development, consumer insight and driving a return on investment, small businesses were invited to attend to hear from a range of speakers who shared their knowledge on topics designed to assist businesses to grow and develop.

The STV Growth Academy was established to reach out to the next generation of Scottish businesses and nurture their development by sharing practical assistance that will make a real difference whilst having a real, sustainable positive impact on our country’s economy.

The event featured a Q&A with entrepreneur, Richard Davies, owner of Abandon Ship Apparel and a session with Gerry Burke on maximising marketing opportunities by making great content on your smartphone.  STV’s Sales Director Pamela Richardson also provided insight into her approach to fostering successful business culture with her top tips on how to create a culture which has a lasting impact on productivity.

Richard Davies, owner, Abandon Ship Apparel, said: “Culture has always been such an important aspect of my businesses so I was really pleased to share some of the lessons I have learned and hopefully inspire others to think more about the culture of their company.

Gerry Burke, Gerry Burke TV, said: “The stars are in alignment right now for producing your own video content in-house. Smartphones, free editing software and free online distribution have made it really accessible - but make sure you get some skills first!

I was delighted to be asked to share some industry secrets at STV's Growth Academy and let new businesses know how they can lift their video skills from amateur to professional."

Pamela Richardson, STV’s Sales Director, said: “STV works with a wide range of companies to help build their brand and connect with their consumers.  Through our series of STV Growth Academy workshops, we aim to bring together the next generation of Scottish businesses with speakers to share invaluable insights and provide a forum for business growth.

“I am passionate about great team work - it’s important to create a business culture for growth.  I hope everyone who attended the STV Growth Academy has taken away insights to help them continue to grow their business.”

The STV Growth Academy is free to attend, though places are limited.  The next event will take place in Aberdeen - further details will be announced in advance.  For more information about the Growth Academy, please visit the website http://www.stvgrowthacademy.tv.
