Elizabeth is Missing star Glenda Jackson wins Best TV Actor Award at the Edinburgh TV Awards

The inimitable Glenda Jackson has been recognised again for her outstanding performance in Elizabeth is Missing, the STV Studios single drama produced for BBC One and broadcast in December 2019.

The winners of the Edinburgh TV Festival Awards were announced in a Twitter extravaganza hosted by social media sensation, Munya Chawawa in an extended lunch break treat today (Weds 18 Nov).  Glenda Jackson accepted the Best TV Actor Award from BBC Chief Content Officer, Charlotte Moore.

On accepting the award, Glenda Jackson said: "I have to say, it was a real privilege to be part of Elizabeth is Missing, not only because of the issue upon which it concentrates. The increase of  dementia and alzheimers is something that I've been concerned about for a very long time... It was an amazing thing to do. The cast was great, the unit was wonderful and Scotland has always been nice to me. And to actually receive an award for doing what I regard as my work, and in something as I think fundamentally important as its subject is just icing on the cake, so thank you very much indeed."

This follows a win for Glenda Jackson at this year’s Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards, where she won in the Leading Actress category.

Elizabeth is Missing was produced and filmed in Scotland for BBC One and was critically acclaimed by UK and international media and audiences for its powerful performance and sensitive and authentic portrayal of dementia.

The film is based on the best-selling novel by Emma Healey and marked Glenda Jackson’s return to the screen after 27 years. She played Maud, a woman whose search for her missing friend Elizabeth takes on a poignant urgency as dementia threatens to erase all the clues. The film was broadcast on BBC One in December 2019 to universal acclaim, attracting a raft of five star reviews.
