Senior Data Analyst

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Analyst to support the management of STV’s rapidly growing customer database and shape the next stage of the companies’ data strategy. This position will be responsible for the interrogation of STV’s customer database as well as the overall maintenance and accuracy of the various outputs. They will provide insight into our online consumer behaviour and use this to deliver targeted content, online marketing campaigns and advertising in order to enhance customer experience.

The role will manage critical support interactions between Digital Ad Operations, Digital Marketing and the Digital product set i.e. Player, News, Scottish Children's Lottery. Working collaboratively with teams across the business, the Senior Data Analyst will identify opportunities to further grow our consumer database, improve the customer experience, increase product loyalty and ultimately drive revenue via data for our Digital products.


  • Maintenance of consumer database to ensure data is correct and accurate in order that outputs can be trusted and acted upon with confidence
  • Lead the charge on data quality and compliance with relevant data protection legislation
  • Collaborating with Business Stakeholders to help better understand the Data landscape and responsibilities around ensuring completeness and accuracy of the data
  • Working hand in hand with Data Engineer to ensure data required by business in retrievable in a viable format
  • Creating a road map of data integration activities with Data Engineer
  • Interrogation of consumer online habits to inform both product development and delivery of targeted content
  • Liaise with Marketing and Content teams to ensure targeted delivery of campaigns. Calibrate methodology as required
  • Be able to summarise findings in a commercial focused and actionable way. You should be able to articulate reasons for good and bad performance in segments of our base and what improvement actions could be taken
  • Work with analytical projects - develop hypotheses to explore and avenues of opportunity
  • Candidate must have an excellent and proven track record of having established successful business relationships with stakeholders. Evidence of influencing, engage with, and responding to senior stakeholders with credibility
  • Influencing and supporting all work across the team - ensure this is in the best interest of the customer
  • Ensuring team activities are always aligned to and in support of the Data and IT strategies
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Degree qualified or equivalent in a Business related discipline
  • Good organisational skills ideally with project management experience
  • Demonstrable experience of working with large customer databases and processing large amounts of data
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyse and summarise a range of complex data issues quickly and accurately
  • Experience of targeting and segmentation to provide more targeted solutions is essential
  • Understanding of Data Mining techniques and how to apply them to large data sets
  • Passion for understanding consumer behaviour and translating this into commercial opportunities
  • Ability to code using programme languages;  such as SQL, R or Python
  • A good working understanding of databases – relational and non relational
  • Knowledge or experience of Big Data analysis tools such as Tableau is advantageous
  • Proven experience in eliciting business requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex problems into clear business requirements
  • Ability to translate technical specifications and suppliers road maps into business opportunities for STV
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively and develop effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Good understanding of the Data Protection Act and knowledge of the forthcoming GDPR legislation
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • IT skills such as PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel and Keynote is an advantage
  • Knowledge of Apache Spark
  • Experience with data transformation
  • Experience with AWS cloud products
