Multi Media Journalist

The Role:

• Pre-planning and initiating ideas for stories that connect with audiences  

• On the day production, editing and media management of original video content for STV News on all platforms

• Self-shooting quality video and stills content for broadcast and digital output on a variety of devices

• Using broadcast packages and edit programmes/long form interviews for broadcast and to provide text, video and interactivity for STV News’ digital outputs

• Undertake presenting duties and the production of output they are feeding into, as required.

• Ability to produce content to tight deadlines using devices including cameras, phones, laptops and dejeros to get content back from location as appropriate

• Set up filming, ensuring necessary permissions are in place and with due regard for health and safety

• Assist in live programming/streaming, reporting live as required

• Retrieve content effectively from media manager and research potential archive content from the STV library

• Help drive traffic to and from via social media in conversation with audiences on all platforms

• Digitise rushes and complete required paperwork for compliance purposes

Skills and Experience (Essential)

• Strong and original editorial sense and ability to research and generate content with a keen understanding of what makes a story for STV News and engages viewers

• Ability to develop original and innovative ideas for video content

• Ability to break stories across all platforms and to work quickly

• Ability to write compelling copy for on-line use to write accurately, grammatically and with attention to detail

• Confident in having conversations with audience via social media

• Strong communication, interpersonal and team working skills to liaise effectively with colleagues, internal and external contacts at all levels

• Determination and drive to succeed and overcome obstacles

• A comprehensive knowledge of the Scottish news agenda, an affinity with the STV audience and users

• A sound knowledge of the law in Scotland as it affects journalism

• A clear commitment to the principles of multi-skilling and to an integrated approach to news output

• A full, clean, driving licence is essential.

Skills and Experience (Desirable)

• Self shooting quality video content, editing and displaying a demonstrable passion for programme making

• A familiarity with social networking, video-sharing and community-based forums and demonstrable experience of using them to drive audience interaction

• Desk-top editing: preferably knowledge of Avid Newscutter / Media Composer editing systems or similar

• Excellent IT skills with experience of working with CMS and video-publishing systems desirable

This role will involve working a combination of day and back shifts as well as weekends.
