Scotland’s unsung heroes celebrated in brand new STV series

Scotland’s unsung heroes will be celebrated in a brand new STV series, RBS - Finding Scotland's Real Heroes, presented by Carol Smillie and featuring ‘star reporters’ including Taggart and Coronation Street star John Michie, comedian and presenter Fred MacAulay and STV presenters John MacKay and Sean Batty.
The five part series, on air this autumn, will pay tribute to people whose hard work, ingenuity, ambition and generosity has improved local communities across Scotland.
STV is now urging viewers to nominate friends, neighbours or groups who have dedicated themselves to helping others and improve the lives of people in their local community. A shortlist of nominees will be selected by a dedicated jury to feature in the brand new series later this year.
Each programme will follow star reporters as they visit the short listed nominees, find out more about the fantastic work they do in their local area and meet people whose lives have been changed by their efforts.
At the end of each episode, STV viewers are invited to vote for the two nominees they believe most deserve to win a Scotland’s Real Heroes Award, with the overall winners being celebrated at a star-studded, televised awards ceremony.
Elizabeth Partyka, deputy director of channels at STV, said: “Most of us know someone who has gone the extra mile to help people around them or improve the quality of life in their local community. This is a fantastic opportunity to get recognition for these unsung heroes. We want people from all over Scotland to get in touch and nominate their Real Heroes, to help us celebrate all the incredible work carried out in communities across the country.”
RBS - Finding Scotland's Real Heroes is sponsored by RBS in association with The Scottish Sun.
Chris Wilson, RBS’s Managing Director of Branch and Private Banking in Scotland, said: “It’s important to celebrate the people that make a difference to their communities, so we’re proud to sponsor RBS – Finding Scotland’s Real Heroes.  We’re encouraging all our RBS staff and customers to get behind the campaign and to nominate the unsung heroes they know so that they get the recognition they ultimately deserve."
Scottish Sun editor Andy Harries said: “There are Scots all over the country who go above and beyond the call of duty to help in their communities. These people deserve to be recognised and celebrated. That’s why we are delighted to be involved in the RBS - Finding Scotland’s Real Heroes campaign.”
