STV has strengthened its news team serving the Highlands and Islands with the appointment of video journalist Alan Jenkins to its Inverness team, following the success of STV's news programmes in the area.

Alan will join reporter Nicola McAlley and camera man Alasdair Macpherson in providing viewers in the Highlands, Islands and Moray area with live, comprehensive and up-to-the-minute local news, alongside the big Scottish stories.

Previously a reporter and video journalist with STV's news team in Dundee, Alan has also worked at Radio Tay in Dundee and CNN in Atlanta, United States.

STV has also appointed camera man Mike Skelly to further boost its Highlands and Islands news coverage.

Alan Jenkins said: “This is a fantastic news patch to be working in. I’m looking forward to travelling far and wide across the Highlands and Islands to meet people and report on a wide variety of stories.”

Donald John MacDonald, Editor of News Programmes, Aberdeen, said: “STV is committed to serving communities across Scotland by providing the most comprehensive local news service in the UK. Our news team in Inverness covers a significant and challenging geographical area of more than 27,000 square kilometres. With Alan and Mike bringing their skills and experience to the team, we are now even better placed to serve the Highlands and Islands area by bringing local and relevant news to our audience. I am delighted to welcome them both on board.”
