STV viewers will put their general knowledge to the test this spring with brand new quiz show, The Lie, hosted by Scottish comedian Susan Calman. The Lie starts Monday 31 March at 2000 on STV and will run for eight weeks.
The Lie is a quiz show with a difference - there are no questions. Instead, a team of two contestants must spot the one lie from a set of otherwise true statements.
Starting with a prize pot of £100 the players work their way up the game board, with each nail-biting round introducing a new series of statements in categories ranging from pop stars and children’s books to football and current affairs. There is only one lie in each round, but as the team get closer to the £10,000 jackpot, the number of truths – and the number of pitfalls – increases.
The team has one chance only to bank their money during the game. Until they bank, every penny in their prize pot is at risk – but bank too early and players risk missing out on the big money. If the contestants wrongly identify a truth as a lie, the game is over and everything they haven’t banked is lost. Or, choosing to play it safe, the team can walk away with their prize pot at the end of a round.
Tensions run high and relationships are put to the test as the players use their combined knowledge, strategy and trust in each other to separate truth from fiction – leading some to the jackpot and others to disaster.
Susan Calman said: “Being part of The Lie was incredibly exciting. The show is fun, packed full of tension and great characters. Occasionally I even forgot to give the contestants the answer because I was too busy playing the game myself! I loved presenting it and I hope that everyone enjoys watching it as much as we enjoyed making it.”
Elizabeth Partyka, Deputy Director of Channels at STV, said: “This fun and unique game show is a great addition to STV’s spring schedule, and is set to be addictive viewing for those playing along at home. The Lie is all about knowledge, teamwork, strategy and a little bit of luck, with Susan adding the perfect amount of wit and banter to the mix.”
