STV will launch a brand new search for Scotland’s most deserving local heroes in the second series of RBS – Finding Scotland’s Real Heroes, presented by Carol Smillie.

Last year, the STV series celebrated Scotland’s Real Heroes - people whose hard work, ingenuity, ambition and generosity has improved local communities across the country. In RBS – Let’s Find Scotland’s Real Heroes, airing on Tuesday 15th April at 1930, Carol Smillie will look back on the success of last year’s campaign and launch a brand new search to find remarkable people who have dedicated themselves to improving the lives of the people around them.

Following the broadcast of RBS – Let’s Find Scotland’s Real Heroes, STV viewers will be invited to nominate their friends, neighbours, local groups and even animals who have dedicated their time and effort to helping others.  Last year’s nominees included sports enthusiasts who are inspiring the next generation, entrepreneurs who put people before profit and young people who make daily sacrifices to help others.

This year’s campaign will feature two brand new categories for nominations - Hero Neighbour of the Year and Hero Animal of the year.  A shortlist of nominations will be selected by a dedicated jury to feature in a series of programmes to be aired this autumn with the overall winners being celebrated in a glittering televised awards ceremony later in the year.

Elizabeth Partyka, deputy director of channels at STV, said: “Last year we were overwhelmed by the community spirit, time and dedication so many of our well deserving nominees and award winners had shown in their local areas and we are delighted to be able to celebrate the hard work of these inspiring people again this year.  We want viewers from all over Scotland to nominate their friends, colleagues, neighbours or local groups so we can reward Scotland’s Real Heroes.”

Chris Wilson, RBS’s Managing Director of Branch and Private Banking in Scotland, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting RBS – Finding Scotland’s Real Heroes for the second year running. There are so many inspirational people across Scotland who do amazing things for their communities and the series is a fitting way to recognise these people and the contribution they make.

“Our branch staff will be getting behind the campaign again and, as well as being able to nominate online and over the phone, we'll have leaflets in all our branches across Scotland for customers and members of the public to nominate their heroes."
