McTear’s Auctioneers is hosting a grand online charity auction in aid of the STV Appeal, launched today (16 September) by Garreth Wood, Trustee of The Wood Foundation.
Garreth has donated a fantastic auction lot, which will see the top bidder enjoy a trip for four to the Hungarian Grand Prix in July 2015, including flights and accommodation.
The donation will be added to an already glittering catalogue of items, including:
  • A long weekend trip for two to the Alps, including four star accommodation, a one day ski pass and two flights in the ‘Paddy Power’s Lucky Pants hot air balloon’, donated by Paddy Power;
  • Glasgow artist Gerard Burns’ painting, Red Coat on St Vincent Street;
  • Dinner for eight, cooked in your own home by broadcaster Kirsty Wark;
  • Tickets to a Wimbledon final in 2015;
  • and a fantastic opportunity for budding presenters to co-host STV Glasgow’s The Riverside Show for one night.
All money from the bids will go directly to the STV Appeal to help support children in Scotland affected by poverty.

In 2013, McTear’s auctioned a Vettriano painting on behalf of the STV Appeal, raising £65,000. This year’s auction is building on that success.
The online auction is open to a global audience with full details, terms and conditions available on
The auction will close on Thursday 9 October with some of the highest bids announced live on air during the big STV Appeal live show, presented by Lorraine Kelly.
Garreth Wood, Trustee of The Wood Foundation, said: “The McTear’s Auction in aid of the STV Appeal is a great way to encourage people to donate that little bit extra to a cause that, unfortunately, needs significant attention in Scotland. The auction gives people the chance to bid for a range of experiences and opportunities that they perhaps would never have thought about doing, while knowing they are helping out some of Scotland’s most vulnerable children at the same time.
“The Wood Foundation first became involved with the STV Appeal last year, and it has been incredible to witness first-hand the difference that each donation makes towards improving the lives of children in Scotland. Meeting some of the young people who have been affected by child poverty really highlights the key role that local charities play in supporting them and their families, and that is why I have decided to donate a prize that I am optimistic will attract a generous bidder.
“The Wood Foundation hopes that our continued involvement and contribution to the STV Appeal will continue to make a genuine difference to the lives of countless children across Scotland who are in most need of our support.”
Elizabeth Partyka of the STV Appeal said: “We have some truly fantastic auction lots lined up for this year’s STV Appeal Auction. With items ranging from Garreth Wood’s generous donation of a trip to the Hungarian Grand Prix and a trip to the Alps donated by Paddy Power, to spa visits and family days out, there is something for everyone. We hope bidders from all over the world will get involved and put in their bids, with every penny being spent on helping Scotland’s children affected by poverty.”
Brian Clements, managing director at McTear’s Auctioneers, said: “We are proud to be involved with the STV Appeal for a third year and look forward to building on the success of last year’s auction which secured a £65k bid for a painting by Jack Vettriano.  There are some fantastic lots on offer this year and I am sure the timed auction will prove to be a great platform to raise much needed funds for children and young people affected by poverty in Scotland.”
STV Appeal is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, number SC042429.
