Scotland Tonight will celebrate five years on STV with an extended programme reflecting on some of the dramatic changes that have shaped Scotland, the UK and the world.
The programme has established itself as the most watched Scottish current affairs programme since launch in 2011.
Presented by John MacKay and Rona Dougall, the Scotland Tonight Special anniversary programme will air on Monday 24th October at 2230 and will also feature clips of some of the big name celebrity interviews from the past five years with a forward look to what might happen in the future.
Scotland Tonight launched in 2011 and has been providing a platform for debate and discussion on all the key stories over the past five years including the Scottish Independence Referendum, the 2015 Westminster Election, the 2016 Holyrood Election and the EU Referendum.
Scotland Tonight has an average nightly audience of over 75,000 viewers and since launch has reached 81% of the Scottish population.  Audience interaction is a vital part of the programme with viewers contributing to the debate online - on average someone tweets with the programme’s hashtag #scotnight every twenty minutes of every day.
Gordon Macmillan, Head of News at STV said: “Scotland Tonight forms a key part of STV’s news and current affairs coverage.  We launched the programme to give our viewers an accessible format combining guest interviews, political debate and analysis with social media interaction covering the big issues in an ever changing Scotland. Our unique format has ensured the programme continues to reflect a conversation with the nation.”
The extended fifth anniversary Scotland Tonight Special airs on Monday 24th October at 2230.
