STV has teamed up with STV Glasgow for a one off cookery special in celebration of St Andrew’s day and will be broadcast on STV, Sunday 30th November at 1800. Jak & Eddie Best of Scottish Food is full of ideas to create a memorable Scottish menu.
Jak & Eddie’s Best of Scottish Food is presented by chef Jak O’Donnell, Great British Menu contestant and owner of the Sisters restaurant in Glasgow, and Eddie Boyle, a favourite on STV Glasgow’s The Riverside Show and head baker at Whole Foods Market in Glasgow. Jak does the cooking while Eddie will carry out the baking and prepares the sweet treats.
The show begins by looking at what we consider to be traditional Scottish classics and asks what really defines Scottish food? While smoked salmon, haggis and cranachan are all hugely popular, Jak and Eddie go back to basics and look at the wider range of local produce Scotland has to offer before taking it into the kitchen to add new twists to some old favourites.
Along the way the pair meet up with producers and experts to get the inside story on Scottish baking, meat and seafood that is regarded internationally as amongst the finest in the world. Locations include Blochairn Fish Market in Glasgow, Dalgarvin Mill in Kilwinning and the Carmichael Estate in Lanarkshire.
At the end of the show, Jak and Eddie invite the producers and food experts, including restaurant critic Ron McKenna, to sample their menu. Starting with a delicious smoked haddock and potato scone stack that celebrates the classic flavours of Cullen skink and an economical slow braised shoulder blade of Scotch beef with haggis bon-bon’s as mouth-watering main. They complete their Scottish menu with a luxurious ginger cake served with oatmeal and whisky cream.
You will never be stuck for a traditional Scottish menu again with Jak and Eddie’s Best of Scottish Food.
Elizabeth Partyka, deputy director of channels at STV, said: “The show is a wonderful way to celebrate St Andrews Day. Jak & Eddie Best of Scottish Food is an essential view for foodies and anyone looking to be inspired in the kitchen for a very special occasion.”
