Some of the UK’s most iconic venues, including locations across Scotland, have signed up to be part I Am Team GB, the nation’s biggest ever sports day. The event was recently launched by STV in partnership with The National Lottery and ITV and is being held across the UK on Saturday 27th August.
The events will also be a homecoming for our lottery-funded Olympic athletes when they return from Rio, inspiring everyone, no matter what their level of fitness, to come together with Olympic heroes and famous faces from STV in the biggest ever UK-wide sports day.
Scottish locations including Glasgow National Hockey Centre, who will be hosting hockey events throughout the day; the Aberdeen parkrun on the Beach Esplanade; a British Military Fitness session at The Meadows in Edinburgh; and the Dundee parkrun in Camperdown Country Park, as well as venues such as the famous cobbles of Coronation Street and the hills and dales of Emmerdale, will just be some of the places opening their doors on the day and offering FREE events to help encourage the nation to get up and get active and be part of I Am Team GB.
For more information on all of these venues and FREE events plus many more please visit the I Am Team GB website www.iamteamgb.com
To celebrate the support the nation gives them by playing The National Lottery, Team GB's returning Olympians will join famous faces from STV at events across the UK. Over £80 million has been raised each year by National Lottery players to help fund elite athletes during the four-year build-up to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
To encourage people to get active, STV will also be switching off its transmission for an hour across all three channels to get the nation moving. At 9.30am on 27 August, the big switch off will see STV, STV Glasgow and STV Edinburgh come off air for an hour to encourage Scots to get up and out and involved in sport at one of the many events happening across the country.
The event is taking place in conjunction with the British Olympic Association (BOA), UK Sport and is supported by Join In.
