STV News will provide original content for new Facebook News experience
Trusted, relevant news from STV’s digital output will be available in UK service
STV is today confirmed as a launch partner for Facebook News, a new dedicated service on the social media platform for reliable and trusted reporting from accountable news organisations.
Described by Facebook as a more personalised and curated news experience, users can discover new topics and stories based on the news they read, share and follow; and find top headlines and stories of the day alongside news personalised to their interests.
The new service became available in the US in 2019 and will launch in the UK in January 2021. STV is one of a select group of news partners whose content will appear within the Facebook News surface, which will also offer users an overview of the day’s most important and relevant news from trusted sources.
Audiences for STV’s news service have soared in 2020. Flagship programme, STV News at Six, attracts more than half a million people each night and the company’s digital publishing delivers millions of views across its website, apps and social media channels.
